- 1.0 OVERVIEW
-
- DOOMM is a savegame editor for the popular action game DOOM produced by
- id software. DOOMM, meaning DOOM Modifier, will allow you to edit the saved
- games produced by DOOM in order to increase your health, ammunition, etc.
- In order to use DOOMM, you must have and should be familiar with DOOM.
- DOOMM version 4.3x is compatible with DOOM version 1.2 and possibly
- later releases. To modify savegames for DOOM version 1.1 and before you must
- obtain DOOMM version 3.14.
-
- When you start DOOMM, you should see the title screen for a few seconds
- and then a menu will appear. If you do not have any savegames in the
- current directory, DOOMM will detect this and exit after displaying the title
- screen. The menu is divided into sections, each of which is explained
- below.1
-
- 2.0 SETUP
-
- This simply allows you to select which savegame you want to edit. Press
- the down arrow to move to the one you want, press space or enter to select
- it, then press tab to move to the OK button. Press space or enter to
- accept. If you select a game which does not exist (it says "BLANK") you
- will be given an error and asked to choose again.
-
- The second option on the savegame menu will allow you to choose which
- difficulty level is saved in the savegame. Note that reducing or increasing
- the difficulty will not affect the number of monsters in the current level,
- but will affect the monsters in subsequent levels.
-
- 3.0 HEALTH MENU
-
- There are two options on the HEALTH menu, HEALTH and ARMOR, which allow
- you to change your health and armor, respectively. Simply enter the value
- you want, using backspace to erase the existing value if necessary, then
- press tab to go to the OK button and press enter to quit. To exit back to
- the main menu, press escape.
-
- NOTE: If you set your health to a value above 199, the limit, your health will
- reduce to 199 when you play as soon as you get a health potion. There are
- ways around this, see later.
-
- 4.0 ITEMS MENU
-
- This menu gives you several choices. The WEAPONS selection allows you
- to select which weapons you want. Move through the list of weapons with the
- down and up arrows, selecting or deselecting the desired weapons with space
- or enter. When you have finished, press tab and then press enter. Note
- that the Plasma Rifle and BFG 9000 do not function in the shareware version
- of DOOM.
-
- The KEYS option lets you select various card and skull keys. It
- operates in the same manner as the preceeding option.
-
- The AMMO and MAX AMMO let you select how much ammunition you currently
- have and how much you can carry, respectively. Enter the values you desire,
- using backspace to delete the old values. To move from one type of
- ammunition to another, you must use tab. Do not try to use the down or up
- arrows. If you desire to give yourself the maximum amount of ammunition
- available, you can enter -1 in the box. Note that if you save the game and
- reload it the number will have been translated into the actual value of the
- maximum amount. You can enter values larger than this, but Bad Things will
- happen if you do. Besides, two million should be enough for anyone.
-
- The POWERUPS option lets you select items you may want, such as a computer
- map, light amplification visors, and radiation suits. Check the items you
- want. The DEBUG ITEMS menu lets you select items which are available by
- pressing certain combinations. Typing IDDQD while playing DOOM in
- non-nightmare mode will activate godmode, for example (See CHEATS.DOC for
- more information concerning codes you can enter). The fourth item,
- indicated with question marks, does something, but I'm not quite sure what yet.
-
- 5.0 MODIFY
-
- The MODIFY menu will allow you to modify your DOOM executable to
- overcome limitation which cannot be surmounted in any other manner. There
- are four options on this menu. The first item, "shareware health", will
- modify the maximum health value on the shareware version of DOOM. The
- default maximum amount is 199, but this will increase it to 999. Note that
- if you are playing after having made the modification and you get a blue
- heatlh potion when your health is greater than about 220 it will move
- directly to 999.
-
- The second option, "shareware ammo", will modify the MAXIMUM ammo that
- you start with. This is useful if you wish to use the IDKFA command to give
- yourself the maximum amount of ammunition you can carry and you do not like
- the limits which are ordinarily imposed. Note that the maximum ammunition
- for specific games should be modified under the ITEMS menu and this option
- will affect only NEW games which you start after making the modification.
-
- The third and fourth options do the same thing as the first two, but
- they work with the Registered version of DOOM instead of the shareware one.
- Note that DOOMM cannot detect which version of DOOM you have, so you must be
- careful to select the correct option from the menu. Also note that in the
- registered version of DOOM the health maximum modification will raise the
- maximum health value above 999, but it will never "jump" to the maximum as
- in the shareware version.
-
- In order for any of these options to function properly, you must be
- running DOOMM from the directory which contains your DOOM.EXE file. Note
- that DOOMM does not detect if your DOOM.EXE is absent, and if you try to
- modify it when it isn't there, Bad Things might happen.
-
- 6.0 RECORDED .LMPs
-
- .LMP files are external demos which can be recorded with DOOM. The
- three .LMPs included with this program, SECLEVx.LMP, show you how to access
- the three secret levels, one in each episode. In the first episode, the
- demo is of level three. In the second episode, the demo is of level 5. In
- the third episode, the demo is of level XXX. If you are not familiar with
- playing external demos with doom, you can use the RUNDEMO batch file which
- will prompt you for which demo you would like to play and then play that
- demo. If you would like to learn how to play demos and record your own, see
- CHEATS.DOC. As a bonus, the file SEC11.LMP has been included. This file
- will show you how to access all three of the secret areas on episode 1 level
- 1. You must play this demo manually (see CHEATS.DOC for instructions).
-
- 7.0 COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
-
- At the present, there is only ONE command line option. It is /nopulse,
- and it will disable the pulsating colors. This option can be abbreviated as
- /nop.
